She's Here!

Annaliese Evangeline
Born: Wednesday, March 14, 2007
Weight: 7 lbs 14 oz
Length: 20.5 inches

The induction went smoothly at 37 weeks along (we had low fluid again), 15 minutes of pushing until her shoulders got stuck and the doctor yelled "I need help!". Holy crap, it was a little scary, but all in all, a much, much, much, MUCH better pregnancy and delivery than Miranda. Hopefully recovery will be quicker too.

We went in at 65 degree weather and came home in a snow storm.

Happy St Patty's Day!

I can barely keep my eyes open

I am so tired. But at least I am enjoying shortbread cookies and hot tea. I thought it would wake me up but it is making me more tired!

Six more weird things...

Ok, I realize that my weird list really isn't too weird, so here are a few things I thought of that really should qualify.

1. I could put needles through the pads of my fingertips and scare the bejeezus of my brothers when we were little. Don't think I will be showing my kids how to do that trick.

2. When I was little, I used to like the taste that came from just brushing your teeth and then drinking orange juice. Now, it makes me sick.

3. I only use Bic Round Stick Blue Ink Medium Point pens. I must have an ample supply at my desk as people are constantly taking them.

4. I LOVE filling out surveys. I have TONS of Zagats survey books to prove it. Someone wants my opinion? You got it. If it is an online survey, it must not be connected to getting free stuff, I hate spam.

5. I love doing outdoorsy things, like hiking, skiing, biking, swimming, camping, etc, but I haven't done any of that type of stuff in ages. I think that is more of a shame than weird, but I admit, I don't make it a priority anymore. I think this summer I will make more of an effort.

6. Don't judge me. I haven't been paying as much attention to this new baby in utero as I did the first time I was pregnant. It really has been more of an inconvenience with loving, cutesy moments thrown in. I know things will change when she gets here, but right now I am so done. Hurry up kid!

Six Weird Things Meme

OK, I read Amalah. She tagged everyone. I'll bite as I have a few seconds between meetings...

1. I read everything on decluttering and cleaning my house but have yet to have a shiny, uncluttered home. I am addicted to Flylady. There just is not enough time in a day get everything together but I like her 15 minutes approach.

2. Hmmm, weird, weird, weird....Oh, I hate to touch warm change that just came out of front pockets of pants. Skeeves me out.

3. My sink must be spotless and dishes put away and everything picked up and bags ready for the next day before I go to bed. When something is left undone, I feel very panicked in the morning.

4. I don't wash my hair everyday. In fact, I hardly blowdry my hair anymore. It is due to no time. The benefit was healthier hair. The downside, I flat iron my hair as much as possible. I have no idea how to control my wavy/frizzy/curly hair. I think getting my hair cut more often than every year or so might help. Again, time is the biggest factor.

5. I secretly LOVE Savage Garden. Yes, the "Truly, Madly, Deeply" group. Dunno why. They are so not the best group musically. Guilty pleasure I guess.

Tag! You're it.

Five Words...

I WANT MY BODY BACK.

Okay, maybe not my just before pre-pregnancy body, but my 21 year old bod would be great.

Happy New Year 2007

God, I am the worst blogger. I don't even think I qualify as one as I write 1 post every 6 months. Pathetic.

Here is the low-down (in case anyone is still interested):

1. I am pregnant. Due April 1. I am hoping for a St Patty's Day baby. Dr thinks will go a little early anyway. It is another girl (definitely confirmed by amnio). Right now? I am done. The first 2 trimesters were great. I have it very easy compared to Miranda. As for the 3rd trimester, all the aches and pains are worse but at least I don't have kidney stones, gall stones (or gall bladder for that matter) and Obstetrical Cholestasis again. This so far has been much better. Keep praying that it stays that way. First name? Annaliese. Middle name? to be given upon delivery. Husband and I agree on 1 name (you will never guess, don't try) but if she goes on St Patty's, I want her middle name to be Patricia, after my mom, and also my middle name.

2. Miranda is a genius! I know every parent feels that way about their kids, but I will always say it. She is 17 months now. Has all 4 new molars (thank goodness teething wasn't too terrible), she is off formula (Finally!) and on whole milk bottles and uses the sippy cup for everything else. She talks more than any kid I know. She has a vocabulary of 35 (YES, really, 35) words and has a new one every day. The newest words to her lexicon are "pigeon", "pretty" and "toys". But she still doesn't say "cat" for some reason. Funny. Yesterday she followed my lead as I shouted "fuck" when I stubbed my toe. It was just so cute and innocent the way she said it. But needless to say, no more cussing for me when she is around. She understands direction very well when I ask her to bring me a pillow or her bottle or something else. She is a little devil though, making mischief whenever she can, by either hiding somewhere under covers or behind curtains, hiding things behind her back and running away when I ask to see them and runs on full speed from the minute she wakes up to the minute she puts her head on her little pillow in her crib. She finally goes into the crib without the 30 minute routine of me rocking her. She is 27 lbs and 31 inches, growing like a weed, and has been very healthy. Only 2 colds and no ear infections to speak of. Knock on wood, please. She had her first plane ride with me to Phoenix and visited with her cousins. I will NEVER fly alone with a child again. In fact, I will not fly with children until they are over 4 yrs again. She has no understanding of the change about to come with a little sister, but hopefully she wont be too jealous.

3. E. is finally with us 7 days on, 7 days off. Coordinating the schedule has been a challenge, but somehow we are managing. I have been very involved with monitoring her schoolwork, making sure she is organized and doing homework assigned. Going into middle school has been a tough transistion for her as she has never really had to work at doing well in school before. It came naturally. And now with me being pregnant, and the change in her custody schedule, I think it threw her off. I am very thankful that she is a great big sister. I think she needs more time with her dad alone, so she can be the focus.

4. We moved again, but I really like the new place and the view of the Hudson River is amazing.

5. I got promoted and a raise a work. That is great. At least I still have a job after some unfortunate layoffs here in my department.

6. Husband and I barely see each other and are too tired to keep up with the house or dog. Anyone have a cleaning lady they can lend me or want a really good dog?

That is all for now. Here are some pics, kid to keep, dog to go with a loving home:

Hello, again, hello

It's been a while... Miranda is almost a year, walking, has 6 teeth, light auburn hair (we have no idea where that came from), brown eyes, babbles up a storm, growls like the Leo she is, loves her puppy, climbs up on EVERYTHING, and is just the most delightful child. We are really blessed. Only 1 cold so far (knock on wood), no ear infections (double knock on wood), and the only discomfort she has is a wet diaper or teething, although her new habit of screaming at the top of her lungs whenever she wants something must go, toot sweet. She graduated to the big girl car seat, LOVES meatballs and mashed potatoes, still loves her binky and bottle, only drinking out of the sippy cup occasionally, but I don't care. She will get rid of them soon enough.

I will post pics soon.

Happy Holidays

They are crazy as my brother and his brood are here from Phoenix and the baby is now very active. I will write more soon. I can't believe I go back to work next week. Happy New Year!!

Saturday, December 03, 2005

A bunch of things rolled into one...

1. I just crawled out from under a rock. I am alive, just getting things together brfore I go back to work in January.

2. Miranda keeps me quite busy. She is already starting to turn over and has just realized that Mommy is the one who feeds and stays with her most of the day, so she doesn't always settle down quick enough with Daddy. She will have to get out of that mode of thinking real quick or none of us will get anything done.

3. Carrying a 14 lb baby around makes for great bicep/tricep exercises. I better have great upper arms by spring. But, oh crap, we need to get the new car seat soon.

4. At 3 months, she is right on target. 14 lbs and 22.5 inches. She is very alert and can almost sit up by herself already. She is a tough cookie when she gets her vaccinations, crying for just a second. The best thing so far? She is cooing and gurgling like crazy, smiling at us the whole time. So cool. Her crazy gas is still crazy, I feel so bad for her when she cries uncontrollably due to a gas bubble. I hope she grows out of this. At least the Playtex Nursers and Lactose Free formula help. She still burps like a trucker (aint you glad you asked?).

5. I have been spending money like crazy. I havent had a paycheck in 2 months. What the hell am I thinking? It's Christmas and we only have 4 more people to get presents for. That is great. But between shopping for everyone, I have been picking up things for me. A new moc-croc work tote, 3 pairs of jeans, 2 cashmere sweaters, ankle boots, silky camisoles, shoes...ACK! I never shop for myself and all of a sudden. WHAM! Spending spree. I really can justify it. I need new clothes post baby. I cleaned out my closet a la Clean Sweep, organizing and getting rid of stuff. I even got honey to do it. The closets look great. He even did it in his Trading Spaces shirt! But anyway. I bought the Lucky Clothes Manual and I have been using it as a bible. So I got a little carried away. I look good doing it. And besides, I got most of it at the outlets. I love bargains.

6. Birthday was nice. Lets not speak of it again. 36 is a weird age. My coolest gift? Honey got me the complete first season of Lost!

7. Thansgiving was at our house, my first one ever. I got out the good china and E. helped set a perfect table. I didn't get Boston Market like I said I would and it still came out great. MIL brought the turkey.

That's all for now... pics to come.

What Not To Wear

Well, today was the big day. I waited 6 months to have my hair cut by Nick Arrojo, the wonderful hairstylist from TLCs What Not To Wear. It was a makeover day for me.

Here is my before picture, long and stringy hair at Miranda's christening. It has been over a year since I got my hair cut. Dont make fun of me. I just had a baby and don't get a lot of time to myself.

Now here is the after, with Mr. Arrojo.

(Ignore my red face, it was hot in there).

What a great guy! He is just as nice in person. He was all huggy kissy, kept telling me that he would make me look hot for my honey, and kept telling me what a great present to give myself for my birthday (ugh, 36) and for just having a baby. He even complimented my hair and told me NOT to color it yet. I never got a pretentious vibe. Really, really nice. It was great. Happy early birthday to me.

What ever happened to...

...that cool girl who used to go to a hundred concerts a year and never miss a U2 or Depeche Mode show? Sure we went to The Tragically Hip and Duran Duran, but we missed The Decemberists, Coldplay, and Nine Inch Nails too. Now I have to get my music fix from clips of MTV2 and Fuse. I miss woxy.com. I am not on the computer enough to justify playing it from the laptop all day. How depressing. I think I have to play a little K-Os to clean the house to just to lift my spirits.

On the bright side, I got Miranda a lullaby CD that is Beatles instrumentals. Very cool. We also came up with some new songs to sing. "Old MacDonald", "Bingo", "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly...", and "Little Bunny FuFu". At least we are branching out.

Everyday is Halloween...

Miranda was strawberries and whipped cream. E. was a baby. Honey was a devil while I was an angel. After some brief trick or treating, we headed out to the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade as honey had never gone before. There were an awful lot of Rainbow Brites out there. It was fun checking out all of the outrageous costumes. Can't wait until next year!

Cool stuff

Since being a stay-at-home mom for now, I have mastered the art of online shopping to my honey's dismay. I also have and will take advantage of Mom only discounts. I can't always go out like I want to but the internet is always open. I am listing a few of my favorites since some of my friends have no clue about the savings. And, no, I am NOT getting paid to endorse them, though I would LOVE to get some compensation for this...

1. Upromise. I cannot sing its praises enough. The way to save for college is 2-fold. You can enter your grocery club cards and buy products that participate in the program (sometimes they are not the cheapest, but if you follow brand names, then it can work for you) and shopping. For online shopping, you have to enter a credit card number for them to track but you get a percentage back from your purchase as long as you access the online merchant through the upromise site. It is VERY easy to do. You can also get money back from patronizing merchants (ie-ExxonMobil) by using the registered credit card. Then you link the upromise account to a 529 account (research the one right for you) and you dump the money in there for the kids college, tax free. Awesome.

We grabbed our relatives keys, copied their grocery card numbers and entered them as our own. There is a correct way to do it (through their Friends and Family link) but a lot of our family is computer illiterate, so we opted for the easy way. Granted, it is pennies on the dollar, but every little bit helps. If you have good credit, you can get the Upromise credit card from Citibank and get more savings.

2. ING Direct. All of the articles I have read in Money Magazine have told me not to open an account in your child's name as it can affect the amount of financial aid they are eligible for when it comes to college tuition. So I opened a separate ING subaccount for each girl under my main account and any money they get as gifts, I deposit into my checking account and then transfer the money into their own savings account. Why go with ING? 3.4% interest on the savings account. Even better rates for CDs. The site is incredibly easy to use.

I have also requested that the girls get savings bonds instead of gifts from family. Some toys are ok, but they have enough. It is the givers choice. You can also get savings bonds online.

3. Peapod.com. My savior. Online grocery shopping with home delivery. My mother is VERY jealous as they don't have something like this in her area, but it is coming soon. She HATES to grocery shop. Peapod is a service from Stop and Shop but other stores have it. In NYC, you can get Fresh Direct. I can also use my grocery savings card and get Upromise items. And I don't have to worry about schlepping the baby and groceries in the rain. So far, they have a 95% track record with me. Always on time for the delivery window I chose and no substitutions. They forgot the rolls and salad that come with the party platter we ordered for the christening party, so I called and they took 6 bucks off the bill. Quite a time saver.

4. Reel Moms. This is a cool thing for the occasional movie WITH the baby. If it is available in your area, there are other moms and dads there with baby in tow to see the latest movies. They don't turn off the lights, they are dimmed and the volume isn't as loud. If you need to breastfeed, no problem. Crying babies are ok. If you don't have a Loews theater that offers it near you, check out other theaters. Some cool theaters have daycare and a fancy dinner menu. Don't rule out date night outside of the home.

I have more stuff to share, but the princess is crying. She didn't sleep through the night this time. Oh well. We'll keep trying.

God Bless Miranda

Today the little princess was baptized. What a whirlwind of a day. Thank you to Aunt Beth and Uncle Johnny for being her godparents. You did a great job.

She wore the christening dress my grandmother made for my mother. She wore it as well as my aunt and me. She looked beautiful.

I will post better pics when my dad sends them.

Holy Crap

Miranda slept through the night. OMG. Two nights in a row. Double OMG.

Friday night we went to watch my cousin's soccer game in Connecticut (they tied) in the FREEZING cold. Yes, we took the baby to a 7pm game in 50 degree weather. She was bundled up well and slept most of the time anyway. The game ended at 10pm and then we went to IHOP for pumpkin pancakes and hot chocolate (the best combination). Oh, and to warm up. The rest of the trip home took about 40 minutes and she slept the whole time. When we got home, I didn't want to wake her or put her on her back on cold crib sheets, so I left her in the car seat and placed it in the crib.

Where she slept.

Until 6am.

I was in shock. I was up at 3, 4, and 5am checking in on her with a bottle in one hand and a clean diaper in the other, but no need. She didn't even stir. Or whimper that she needed her diapy changed. When she did finally want to wake up, she downed almost 7 oz of formula and had the poopiest diaper I have ever changed.

I didn't care. She slept for almost 7 hours consecutively.

Last night was a repeat performance. She slept from 1am to 8am (not in the car seat, but ON me). I was up at 4am and 6am for no reason. But still...

Let this be the start of something good. Please Lord. I would LOVE to get more than 3 hours of consecutive sleep. I pray. Please let the luggage under my eyes fade back to their pale shade and the whites of my eyes be WHITE instead of bloodshot. Please let her continue this wonderful streak and I will light candles or slaughter a lamb or whatever you want. (Okay, maybe not slaughter the lamb because I could NEVER hurt an animal like that, but you get my point). Thank you for blessing us with such a good baby. She gets baptized next week, you know.

Anyhoo, keep your fingers crossed for us. I really could use the sleep.

Happy Birthday Miranda

You are 2 months old today. You have gotten bigger (you are almost 10 lbs!). You have kept the beautiful dark hair that you were born with but you were cursed with the cowlick that runs in my side of the family. Your hair is growing and beginning to show signs of soft curls. Your cheeks have plumped up and are ripe for kisses. You still don't like to be breastfed, so we have decided to go with formula. Of course, you won't take the regular kind, you need lactose free to control the crazy amount of gas you emit. You also don't do well with the powdered version (just add water!) or the concentrate. No, you only do well with the ready to eat version. We also have switched to the Playtex Nurser system with the disposible bags which has also helped control the gas of your distended belly. You are no cheap date.

You have just started tracking things well, and have quite a grip. You scream like crazy as soon as you have a wet diaper, but can sit for an hour in a dirty one. You love baths (maybe because you had low amniotic fluid in the womb?). You hold you head up VERY well and love tummy time. You hate sleeping on your back. You are just discovering that if you cry, someone will pick you up. You are now sleeping between 11pm and 4am (hallelujah!) but still need to be fed every 3 hrs otherwise. Mommy passes out by 10 pm, so Daddy gets you to bed. You eat between 4-6 oz at a time. You are starting to outgrow the newborn size clothes and are in 0-3 month size. You like riding our dog, Boba Fett (with help of course). He loves you and licks your feet, but is definitely jealous that you get more attention than he does.

You sleep during our daily walks. You like listening to "Piglet is Surrounded Entirely by Water" while we drive along. You smile with gas and are just starting to smile socially. You can make the Elvis lip without even trying. I taught you to stick out your tongue. You imitate me and we do it together. Grandma Mia is horrified that I would teach you something rude right away. :)

We sing the alphabet 100 times a day. We count to 10 in English, French, German, and Spanish. Grandma Mia sings you songs in Polish. We need new songs. Mommy is getting tired of "I'm a Little Teapot" and "Mares eat oats and does eat oats" and "Head, shoulders, knees and toes". We watch the news often, you will be very worldly.

I still can't believe that you came out of me (though I have the stretch marks to prove it). I marvel daily about how beautiful you are. I can only hope that you know how much you are loved. I want you to play the piano like Daddy. We both want you to read music like we can. We pray that you can hold a tune. I dream of watching your dance recitals like I had. Once you are old enough, we will go see the NYC Ballet and the Nutcracker every year. We want you to like to play tennis, soccer and swim like us. You WILL understand the rules of football and know the constellations in the sky. I want you to love to travel and have great knowledge of geography like me. I want you to have great passion about things like your sister does at such a young age. I want you to have compassion for those less fortunate than us and be concerned about preserving the environment.

Every day holds something new. I want you to know that we love discovering life with you. I can't imagine it without you.

Meme

Ok, I am resorting to a Sunday meme from Patrick's Place. So sue me. I just can't seem to be original today. Must be the impending doom of flooding that is about to overtake my house from the river across the street.

Name seven books (title and author, please) on your bookshelf that you couldn't resist buying...but that you haven't read yet!

Hmmm....
1. Hell's Half Acre by Will Christopher Baer. He is one of my fave authors and I was really looking forward the this final chapter of the trilogy, but haven't had time.
2. Life of Pi by Yann Martel. NY Times best sellers cant be wrong.
3. Secret History by Donna Tartt. She is friends with Bret Easton Ellis and they similar styles.
4. Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea by Thomas Cahill. I have read the other 3 in this series so far, but again, where does the time go?
5. Loitering with Intent by Peter O'Toole. This is his autobiography. If you have ever seen him and/or Richard Harris in an interview, you know that they are the craziest men ever to walk the planet. It has to be good.
6. Baudolino by Umberto Eco. Because I am DETERMINED to get through one of his books before I die.
7. The Nautical Chart by Arturo Perez-Reverte. He is another of my other fave authors. I LOVED The Club Dumas and have been hooked on his historical thrillers ever since.

My own fave author's list (in no particular order):
Anne Rice
Michael Crichton
Henry Miller
Hunter Thompson
Arturo Perez-Reverte
Chuck Palahniuk
Will Christopher Baer
Madeline L'Engle

Top 5 fave books (also in no particular order):
The Firebrand and The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte
The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle

All of these books have creases in their spines. I have read them all NUMEROUS times and they never seem to get old for me.

What are yours?

Apple Pickin Pics

They sold pumpkins too. Now if I can be savvy enough on Photoshop to erase that guys butt, it would be a cute picture.

Happy Anniversary

It was 1 year ago that we said "I do". I still mean it.
E. looked beautiful.
